    Emergency services are unsure how a person became trapped in an old mine shaft on the West Coast this morning

    27 August 2025
    They were called to the Tyneside Mine east of Greymouth and extracted a person in a serious condition.

    The Department of Conservation says the mineshaft is securely fenced.

    The mine operated from the 1870s until 1908.
