Alura Limited will pay 37-thousand 500 dollars for ignoring multiple orders to complete seismic work on its Petone residential building.
Hutt City Council successfully prosecuted the company under the Building Act earlier this year - a step believed to be the first of its kind in New Zealand.
Divisional Manager for Environmental Consents Helen Oram hopes it's a lesson to other building owners, especially after the Christchurch and Kaikoura quakes.
She says they're determined not to have that kind of tragedy happen in Lower Hutt.
Helen Oram says they're expecting Alura to apply today for a building consent to strengthen or demolish the building.
