    First responders to a fatal crash on State Highway 1, north of Atiamuri in South Waikato are describing the scene as "horrific."


    Emergency services were called to what they're describing a "complex scene" just after 2.30 this morning.

    The truck and car were in flames and officers are still working to separate the two vehicles.

    At least one person has been confirmed dead.

    Fire Chief Tokoroa Dave Morris is thankful the truck wasn't carrying any dangerous goods.

    State Highway One between State Highway 30 and Ongaroto near Kinleith will remain closed for some time.
