    Fire crews have spent the night working to contain large blazes in Northland and Bay of Plenty


    Several homes have been evacuated, after a scrub fire broke out on Binnie Street in Northland's Paihia just before 10.30 last night.

    Two helicopters will be on the scene from first light.

    A fire also broke out in several hectares of manuka clippings on Factory Road, south of Opotiki, just after 12.30 this morning.

    It isn't threatening any buildings at this stage.
