The number of people killed in water related incidents this summer has climbed again today

The number of people killed in water related incidents this summer has climbed again today

With two months left to go in the reporting period, New Zealand's summer water death toll has today reached 27.

A 58-year-old man died in Wellington Hospital, following a water related incident at St Matthew's Collegiate School in Masterton on Monday.

Police have also recovered a body from the Waikato River while searching for a missing swimmer.

Formal identification is yet to be completed but Police believe it's the body of the man who was reported missing in the river at Hamilton Gardens on Monday night.

A number of other rescues have taken place this afternoon, including a person in a critical condition from Mangamate Waterfall on Whirinaki River just before 2.45pm.

The remote area is inland from Minginui in the Ureweras.
