Options have been laid on the table, as frustrated residents brace for an extensive state highway closure at the top of the South Island

Part of State Highway 6 between Nelson and Blenheim will shut next Tuesday for seven weeks for emergency repairs.

The closure zone is between Hira, near Nelson, and Ronga Road, in the Rai Valley.

Waka Kotahi regional manager Mark Owen says alternative access has been arranged for residents with commitments from Kokorua Road via a forestry track.

While the route is safe, it's narrow and steep - and Waka Kotahi is aiming to run 12 convoys daily.
