An extensive search is underway for a missing kayaker in the Firth of Thames

An extensive search is underway for a missing kayaker in the Firth of Thames

The man set out from Kaiaua at around 3pm yesterday, with the intention of fishing at the mussel farms, however he hasn't returned.

His kayak, along with fishing gear, was located around three miles east of Orere Point at 6.30 this morning.

Police have led the search, with the Maritime Unit and Eagle helicopter involved ... and Coastguard has also been providing assistance.
