Fire restrictions have been put in place today for much of South Canterbury

Fire restrictions have been put in place today for much of South Canterbury

Ffire danger risk in Canterbury is expected to be at its peak - with MetService forecasting hot, dry temperatures - and strong north west winds.

Fire and Emergency NZ has imposed the restrictions on the Ashburton High Country, Mackenzie Basin High Country and Hakataramea Valley.

A permit will be required to light most kinds of outdoor fires.
