We've had reports from New Plymouth of what some locals describe as "decent westerly gusts around 100 kilometres an hour

New Plymouth is already under a strong wind watch until after midnight.

There are some 1,000 homes in New Plymouth without power.

The lack of power comes as MetService has forecast an overnight low of 13C for New Plymouth overnight.

And we've been told a tree has fallen on a vehicle in the Bell Block area.
