Fire crews have contained a large shrub fire sparked at Invercargill's Oreti Beach this morning

Fire and Emergency have been working to put out the blaze since around 5.20 -- now contained to a size of approximately six hectares.

At its peak, two helicopters, four fire trucks and four tankers were working to control the flames.

Crews will remain at the scene for the rest of the day.
