The skipper of a recreational powerboat involved in a Bay of Islands boat crash has been charged

The other boat, a passenger ferry on its regular run from Russell to Paihia, sank after the April 13 collision.

The ferry's skipper, 77-year-old Bill Elliott, was left with critical head and spinal injuries.

Maritime New Zealand carried out an investigation, and has now filed one charge in the Auckland District Court under the Maritime Transport Act.
