Lesley Manville is still friends with her ex-husband Gary Oldman more than 35 years after he left her for Uma Thurman

'The Crown' star , 68, actress married fellow actor Gary in 1987 and they became parents to a son named Alfie the following year, but the marriage crumbled just three months later and he moved on with Uma leaving Lesley as a single mum - but she's adamant they've put the past behind them and are on good terms now.

She told The Sunday Times Style magazine: "Our son got married this year, and there we all were being a family for the week. I mean, he's [Gary] married.

"He's on his fifth wife now. And she's lovely. But I don't see him all the time, we mostly bump into each other at awards ceremonies.

"We're both nominated for an Emmy this year. He's the same. We're the same. We still make each other laugh."

Lesley went on to reveal her most treasured possession is a gift from her son, which was organised by Gary. She added: "Gary did it as a present for Alfie to give to me. You know when your kids are young and it's mummy's birthday. It's a little frame.

"And you open it out and on one side is a black-and-white photo of Alfie, aged about six. And on the other side, you press the button and there's a recorded message and it's his little voice saying a birthday message to me. If I'm away from home, even for a night, it's always with me. So it has sat on the bedside table of many a hotel."

Lesley and Gary split in 1989 and divorced a year later. The 'Slow Horses' star went on to tie the knot with Uma in 1990 but they divorced by 1992. He went on to walk down the aisle with model Donya Fiorentino and singer/ actress Alexandra Edenborough before marrying his fifth and current wife writer Gisele Schmidt.

Lesley previously opened up about the breakdown of her marriage during an appearance on BBC Radio 4's 'Desert Island Discs' admitting she felt very lonely as she raised her son alone.

She explained: "It was a tremendously lonely time.[It was in the] days before mobile phones as well ...

{We had} the best time [during the marriage but then] the rug was very severely pulled from under my feet. I'd thought we'd be together forever, we'd have a big family, but maybe if that had happened, maybe I wouldn't have the career I've got now,."

After divorcing Gary, Lesley was married to Joe Dixon between 2000 and 2004 but is currently single.
