Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tam's continuing its rampage down the country

Heavy downpours are expected over the coming days - with rain and wind warnings in place for the west and east of the North Island - and top of the South Island.

Those further North are using a moment of ease to manage the fallout of the recent deluge.

Whangarei mayor Vince Cocurullo says there's been a bit of flood damage in his region - but its mostly been surface level.

He says the biggest issues are the fallen trees and powerlines - and branches blocking roads.

Meanwhile, some parts of State Highway 25 in the Coromandel remain closed due to slips - and NZTA advises those driving to take care.
