Police are preparing to investigate a Gore toddler's death - for a third time

Police are preparing to investigate a Gore toddler's death - for a third time

Three-year-old Lachie Jones was found dead in a council oxidation pond near his home in 2019.

Two police investigations have concluded it was likely an accidental drowning.

Last month, Coroner Alexander Ho found the initial police investigation had serious failings - describing it as a 'shambles.'

A new investigation will be led by North Islanders, Detective Inspector Darrell Harpur and Detective Superintendent Ross McKay.

Police are due to report back to the Coroner in January.
