Black Caps great Tim Southee is lamenting the achievement he's still yet to tick off in test cricket, following his decision to retire from the format

The right-arm seamer will step down following the home England series, but will remain available if New Zealand qualify for the World Test Championship final.

Southee smacked 77 on test debut against the English back in 2008 - a stat that remains his top score.

He says there are potentially six innings left to record a maiden century.

Southee will play for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield next week in preparation for test one in Christchurch.
