Investigations are under way - over the death of an Auckland six-year-old soon after having tonsil surgery

The boy stopped breathing at home - and was rushed to Starship Hospital, last week.

The New Zealand Society of Head and Neck Surgery President , Doctor Julian White, says bleeding is the most common complication.

He says fatalities from the surgery are extremely rare, but not unheard of.
