    An investigation's been launched after the death of a woman in Paraparaumu, north of Wellington, last night


    Police were called to Chums Road just before 10pm after reports of an assault.

    Despite efforts of emergency services, the woman died at the scene.

    A 31-year-old man, known to the woman, has been charged with assault and breach of a protection order and is set to appear in the Porirua District Court today.

    Police say they'll have an increased presence in the Kapiti area.
