A 41-year-old man is before the courts - accused of setting fire to a cellphone tower in Wanaka

A 41-year-old man is before the courts - accused of setting fire to a cellphone tower in Wanaka

There've been a spate of arson attacks on cell towers in the region - the latest, last week, at a One NZ mobile site near Wanaka cemetery.

Police say the man has been charged in relation to just one incident - the Lindis Pass tower arson in early July.

He is due to appear in Queenstown District Court facing charges of arson and firearms offences.

Acting Detective Sergeant Julie Bowman says the attacks have posed a serious risk to the community.
