Tauranga's Mayor says a community gathering will be held tomorrow - to acknowledge last week's tragic landslide at Mount Maunganui

Tauranga's Mayor says a community gathering will be held tomorrow - to acknowledge last week's tragic landslide at Mount Maunganui

Six people remain missing and are presumed dead - with a Rahui now in place for the cordoned area where recovery work's set to run on for weeks.

The Rahui also covers parts of Pilot Bay and Mount Main Beach.

Tauranga District Council will carry out an independent review into the slip - and the Government's confirmed it'll launch its own enquiry.

Mayor Mahe Drysdale says tomorrow's gathering will also mark a reopening of the community - with cordons around the site due to be scaled back within the next few days.

He says they want to ensure Police have the space to carry out the operation - but they need to start supporting the local businesses.
