The closure of Smith and Caughey's is reigniting frustrations over central Auckland construction

The 145-year-old business announced yesterday it would be closing its doors for the final time before August - with the loss of almost 100 jobs.
It cites a reduction in foot traffic along with city centre disruptions as reasons for poor performance.
Retail NZ Spokesperson Ann-Marie Johnson says it's a familiar story of many businesses in areas with ongoing roading issues.
She says, combined with tough economic times, it is simply too hard for some companies to continue.
