Raw sewage is once again being pumped into the sea close to Wellington's southern shoreline, as heavy rain lashes the capital

Raw sewage is once again being pumped into the sea close to Wellington's southern shoreline, as heavy rain lashes the capital

Bad weather over the past few days has increased water flow, meaning untreated wastewater from Wellington's failed treatment plant has to be diverted to the close-to-shore outfall.

It includes solid material like wipes and period products, which shouldn't be flushed.

Workers are still assessing the damage at Moa Point, but water sampling's postponed until tomorrow.

Wellington Water says the short outfall could be used intermittently for at least 24 more hours.

People should avoid flushing non-biodegradable items.
