Ko had two birdies and a bogey to card a one-under 71.
She sits in seventh, with A Lim Kim leading the tournament at four-under.
Fellow New Zealand golfer Kazuma Kobori was four-under through 15 holes of his opening round when play was suspended at the South African Open in Durban.
Like Ko, he's three back from the lead.
