Cantabrians are being warned to keep up-to-date with the water quality of their favourite beaches, lakes and rivers, before they go swimming this Anniversary Weekend

Medical Officer of Health Cheryl Brunton says a number of sites within Lyttelton and Akaroa Harbours, remain unsuitable for swimming.

That includes popular spots like Akaroa Main Beach, Corsair Bay, Rapaki Bay, Sandy Bay, Diamond Harbour Beach and Purau Beach.

Rain is set to become persistent in the Garden City this afternoon before easing in the evening.
