The death of a man near Auckland's Southern Motorway on Tuesday has been referred to the Coroner

Officers were called to a walkway at Highbrook about 11.30am - where they found the man's body, alongside two devices confirmed to be viable pipe bombs.

Police say they will not be releasing detailed findings of the post-mortem.

Though, they say the man died of a self-inflicted injury.
