A Christchurch High School student's been admitted to hospital with meningococcal meningitis

A Christchurch High School student's been admitted to hospital with meningococcal meningitis

The National Public Health Service in Canterbury have been notified of the case, and all close contacts have been identified and offered antibiotics.

Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Annabel Begg says they're working closely with Shirley Boys' High School and determined there's no risk of infection for other students or staff.

Principal Tim Grocott says the student was in Dunedin for a school rugby tournament with other students last week, but his symptoms only emerged this week.

He says the student is now alert, moving and talking.
