A reminder for Dunedin motorists as cars get frosty and the roads get icy

City council contractors are once again patrolling roads in the early hours of the morning, reporting on conditions and deciding which roads should be treated with grit or de-icer.

Main arterial routes are the priority and major traffic routes are treated before 7.30am - most residential streets are not gritted.

Transport Delivery Manager Ben Hogan says drivers still need to be careful in winter months, and not rely on this to remove the risk entirely.

He says people should de-ice and de-mist their windows, slow down and allow for extra time.
