Waka Kotahi's lifted its ban preventing Te Huia trains entering metro Auckland.
Services will be able to continue to the Strand from August 7.
Land Transport Director, Neil Cook, says Kiwirail's implemented new risk mitigation controls, giving reassurance they'll operate safely.
He says there's still an expectation more advanced train control systems will be implemented down the track, in-line with network growth.
Free travel's being offered on Te Huia for a week when it restarts, to celebrate.
