Ceasefire approval delayed as Israel claims Hamas walked back on terms — as it happened

Israel and Hamas previously agreed to a complex ceasefire deal that will see hostilities in Gaza end and hostages and prisoners released in stages.

Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has announced.

The complex agreement includes multiple stages, and will see hostages taken by Hamas released from Gaza, and Palestinian prisoners freed from Israeli jails in the coming weeks.

After the agreement, however, Israel said it would delay its cabinet meeting to officially approve its side of the deal — saying Hamas had reneged on certain terms.

Hamas reiterated it agrees to the terms, and reports have since surfaced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delayed the approval process to meet the demands of a far-right politician.
