A police station custody unit has been reopened on the North Shore after being decommissioned over a decade ago

A police station custody unit has been reopened on the North Shore after being decommissioned over a decade ago

Police say its re-opening will support its operations across the North Shore and Rodney - by reducing the time taken transporting people in custody.

The Waitemata East District Custody Unit, based at the North Shore Policing Centre accepted its first detainees since 2013 yesterday morning.

Police Commissioner Richard Chambers say the facility is technologically advanced and future-focused for custody staff.
