Nine Land, Search and Rescue teams from across the South Island are going head to head today

Responders from around Canterbury, and one from Clutha, will compete for the 39th Land Search and Rescue Trophy in Lyttelton Harbour's Quail Island.

The competition brings volunteers together for a social occasion while also strengthening the vital skills used in real-life operations.

They'll be assessed on teamwork, leadership, search skills and problem solving.
