Labour Leader Chris Hipkins has ruled out adopting Te Pati Maori's policy to abolish prisons, but says there're other policy areas they align

Te Pati Maori's campaigning on replacing prisons with what it calls community-led solutions.

Hipkins says he'd love to live in a world that didn't need prisons, but unfortunately we do.

In reference to working with the party, he ruled out accepting that policy in negotiations, but says body cameras on Police, another Te Pati Maori policy, is something he'd consider.

He says there's a lot of support for it within Police, and he'd be open to considering it again.
