Maori and Moriori ancestral remains are a step closer to where they belong

Maori and Moriori ancestral remains are a step closer to where they belong

A repatriation powhiri yesterday marked their return to Aotearoa, after being stolen and taken to Austria 150 years ago.

They'll stay at Te Papa while their final resting place is determined.

Repatriation Advisory Panel Chair Sir Pou Temara describes the day's significance.

He says you could almost feel the sigh of relief from the spirit of the ancestors, that it won't be too long before they continue their eternal slumber in peace.
