A coroner has ruled a tourist's drowning death in Lake Wanaka was likely due to a medical event

A coroner has ruled a tourist's drowning death in Lake Wanaka was likely due to a medical event

Korean tourist, Jinwoo Park, was swimming out to a friend at a pontoon in November 2022, when he suddenly stopped, started waving, then sank.

His friend and passersby couldn't reach him, and his body was recovered the next day.

The coroner says it's likely Park developed an abnormal heart rhythm, and his death isn't linked to any lack of safety messaging.
