A nervy first-up win for the Black Sox at the softball World Cup in Auckland

A nervy first-up win for the Black Sox at the softball World Cup in Auckland

The New Zealand men have beaten the Czech Republic 3-1, in the tournament opener at Rosedale Park.

Starting pitcher Daniel Chapman - who's only just returned from back surgery in April - says it was crucial to get under way with a win.

Across at North Harbour Stadium, and it hasn't been the Auckland Tuatara's day.

They've been thumped 6-1 by the Sydney Blue Sox, in game 2 of their series... which is now tied at 1-all.

Game 3's set to start at 7pm.
