A move to extend the life of a divisive cycleway in the heart of Christchurch

A move to extend the life of a divisive cycleway in the heart of Christchurch

The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board has recommended the Park Terrace cycleway remains in place.

A lane of traffic was removed under a temporary traffic plan for the cycleway.

The board heard from more than 40 people - divided over changes in a seven hour meeting yesterday.

Board Chair Emma Norrish says those who predominantly drove down the road wanted to see the changes removed.

But she says there were multiple deputations from cyclists and pedestrians in support of the changes - and said they felt a lot safer.

The recommendation will go to council for final approval.
