Police have confirmed a motorcyclist found dead in a Northland creek, was shot

Police have confirmed a motorcyclist found dead in a Northland creek, was shot

A homicide investigation has been launched after the man was found beside State Highway 15, near Whangarei, on Wednesday.

His bike was found on the road between Maungatapere and Otaika.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer says they believe the man was killed between 7-and-11pm on Tuesday, in a layby opposite the entrance to the Otaika Valley Scenic Reserve.

He says they know from dashcam footage that there were a number of vehicles in the layby prior to the victim arriving.
