    A steep bill for Matamata's District Council, over an unlawful wastewater discharge last year


    Matamata-Piako District Council has been convicted and fined more than 67 thousand dollars for discharging wastewater into the Mangawhero Stream over Easter weekend in 2023.

    It included untreated human waste .

    It's believed 2.8 million litres was discharged when key equipment wasn't turned on, and warning messages were ignored.
