The new Rail Minister is up against a March deadline to take his alternative proposal for a new Interislander service to Cabinet.

Peters has released a criteria for ship-builders, including being able to deliver them in 2029, ability to manage freight and passengers, and value for money.

It comes after news a procurement company still isn't established, as Peters looks to appoint directors.
