A climbing unemployment rate is being blamed on the slow economy

Stats NZ says unemployment rose to 5.1 percent in the final quarter of last year.
ASB Senior Economist Mark Smith says it will probably continue to increase in the first half of the year.
He says it will have a strong effect on the OCR, with 50 basis point cut basically a sure thing.
