In the last year, about 35-thousand new dwellings were consented, down more than 20-percent on the year ending April 2023.
Inflationary pressures and the cost-of-living crisis are being pegged as the cause.
Building Industry Federation Chief Executive, Julian Leys says there's some pockets of hope -- like the renovation and infrastructure markets.
He says those areas are doing well, with the slow-down mainly impacting residential and commercial sectors.
