Challenging times for retailers continue as spending tracks below last year for most sectors

Spending at Food and Liquor stores was above average - however spending at shops selling only liquor declined.
Amongst the rest of the core retail merchants, excluding hospitality, spending in May was 4.7 per cent less than May last year.
Worldline NZ's Chief Sales Officer Bruce Proffit says Mother's Day was a bright spot for the hospitality sector.
He says spending through Fast Food merchants was 1 million dollars higher than on the Sundays before and after.
