New Zealand's campaign at the men's Under-20 football World Cup in Chile has ended with a 3-nil loss to red-hot Japan

New Zealand's campaign at the men's Under-20 football World Cup in Chile has ended with a 3-nil loss to red-hot Japan

Egypt scored late to beat Chile 2-1 in the other group game and snatch the lifeline of best third-placed team ... even though the Youth All Whites beat the Egyptians, and ended on the same two-defeat, one-win record as them and the hosts.

It came down to goal difference ... one goal in the end.

Captain Lukas Kelly-Heald told FIFA they fought all the way.

The Japanese swept the group with three wins, not conceding a goal.
