Police say they're removing a barrier to applicants, in introducing a new training base in Auckland

Police say they're removing a barrier to applicants, in introducing a new training base in Auckland

The new base is looking to open at the end of June, and help Police meet their target of 500 new officers.

Police Commissioner Richard Chambers says being away from home for 20 weeks has been a deterrent for many people wanting to join.

He says it's one of the reasons why they're opening a new wing in Auckland, to complement the existing one in Porirua.

Chambers says they don't want the distance to be a barrier where they can't go home at night.
