Inland Revenue could soon take unpaid tax out of bank accounts

Inland Revenue could soon take unpaid tax out of bank accounts

The agency has started a campaign to go after smaller unpaid debts - to prevent them from ballooning.

It will make two attempts to contact the person with debt - and take further action if it doesn't hear back.

Customer Segment Lead, Tony Morris, says the government agency could take money by force - or start insolvency proceedings.

He says it aims to take 100 percent of the debt - even if that's all there is in the account.
