Labour's firmly rejecting Te Pati Maori's campaign policy - to abolish prisons and replace them with community community-led solutions by 2040

It wants to close youth residences and military-style bootcamps, and establish an independent Maori Justice Authority.
Opposition leader, Chris Hipkins, says unfortunately, we live in a society that needs prisons.
He says he cannot at all envisage a scenario, where Labour would support abolishing them.
