Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown is welcoming an overhaul of the Building Act

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown is welcoming an overhaul of the Building Act

The Government's proposing a new liability model - that holds parties responsible only for their share of work.

The mayor says he suggested such changes in his 2023 Manifesto for Auckland.

He says under the current system, ratepayers bear the cost and face uncapped financial liability.

Brown says the next step is exempting Auckland from earthquake-strengthening rules.
