A fresh call for more accountability from sunscreen companies

A fresh call for more accountability from sunscreen companies

An Australian consumer group has found 11 sunscreen brands sold in New Zealand don't meet their SPF claims.

Most gave moderate or high protection, but one - Ultra Violette's Lean Screen SPF50 Mattifying Zinc Sunscreen - returned super-low SPF readings of four and five.

Consumer NZ Researcher, Belinda Castles, says companies aren't transparent enough on when and where products are tested.

She says more work needs to be done on making more regular testing mandatory.
