Oranga Tamariki received 39 reports about kaimahi harming children across its five youth justice residences - in the year ending in June

More than half came from Korowai Manaaki in Auckland's Wiri.

The conduct's defined as any action by staff potentially causing harm - including physical, emotional or verbal harm, neglect, or providing harmful contraband.

Oranga Tamariki says allegations are taken extremely seriously - with wraparound support to any young people placed at risk.

It revealed last week 530 children in its care experienced harm in the year ending in March.
