Tougher sentencing laws are on the way for offenders

Tougher sentencing laws are on the way for offenders

The Justice Minister's outlined a suite of reforms to be introduced into Parliament in the next few months.

Situations where victims are working alone - such as in a dairy - will now be considered an aggravating factor in sentencing.

Sentence reductions for mitigating factors will also be capped at 40 percent.

Paul Goldsmith says it's frustrating for victims when offenders get multiple discounts.

He says it makes a mockery of the justice system - and the law's changing to prevent repeat discounts for youth and remorse.
