There are hopes a conviction against former Port of Auckland boss Tony Gibson could spark further change

He was found guilty under the Health and Safety at Work Act - over the death of stevedore Pala'amo Kalati .

Maritime Union National Secretary Carl Findlay says numerous complaints around health and safety were raised before the death.

He says they'd now like a corporate manslaughter law introduced.

Findlay says if a worker dies at work the boss should go to jail.
